Building a robust model of enterprise support
London Youth Support Trust (LYST), which participated in the YBN.UK programme, has formed a partnership of support with public, charitable and corporate sector organisations to create affordable commercial premises for young entrepreneurs in London.
In London, the high levels of commercial rent and the need for substantial deposits exclude a large section of the population from the commercial premises market.
LYST is a registered Charity and its primary aim is to provide suitable, affordable premises with relevant, timely and comprehensive on-site business and personal development support, including finding innovative ways of increasing sales. It does this through a developing network of Business Incubation Centres across London, including Deptford and Hackney.
Through its relationship with Workspace plc, LYST has developed small incubator spaces within larger, commercially managed workspaces, giving young entrepreneurs the foothold they need to get their ventures off the ground.
LYST aims to work with the less advantaged young people, aged 18-30 and previously unemployed. They are particularly keen to work with people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, women and people with disabilities.
