Sustaining Momentum
Wandsworth Youth Enterprise (WYE) began its capacity-building work in Central Europe by setting up the first youth-focused business incubation centre in the region: the Budapest Youth Enterprise Centre (BYEC).
WYE’s work in Central Europe continued with funding from the EU’s Leonardo scheme, driving forward a cascade model that allows WYE and BYEC to support a further four organisations in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. The momentum developed through these initial programmes in the mid 1990’s has continued through to today’s youngbusiness.net UK programme.
The WYE team’s work now amounts to over 10 years experience in helping other organisations develop enterprise and incubation centres. It has helped to strengthen and refine the training, support and network development skills within
the charity. This invaluable expertise is now passed on in a cascading model to a network of partners across the UK.
The youngbusiness.net projects, both in the UK and in Central Europe, alongside WYE’s unique sustainability model, allows the charity to research, test and develop new methods and programmes for supporting clients in Wandsworth and the surrounding boroughs. This learning and development is used within WYE’s own centre (WYEC) as well as being tailored for our partners’ programmes outside Wandsworth. Over the lifetime of the project, WYE has significantly increased its expertise in Outreach and Community Development, Business Planning Training and Engaging with Black & Minority Ethnic [BME] Communities; and has developed training and adaptation systems to cascade these skills on to the youngbusiness.net UK partners.
