Móricz Zsigmond Student Presents at World Entrepreneurship Summit, London

EDW and Wandsworth Youth Enterprise Centre (WYEC) were invited to run a conference track at the World Entrepreneurship Summit at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, in January 2008.

The session included a presentation about their work by one of our Central European partners, Budapest Youth Enterprise Centre (BYEC). Anett Dandóczi (pictured right), one of Móricz Zsigmond Secondary School’s Roma students, also gave a presentation about the issues facing the Roma community in Ibrány, where the number of poor, unemployed and under-educated people is very high.

The Roma Community

Anett, who is being supported in her education by the János Arany Student Hostel Programme for Multiply Disadvantaged Students, spoke movingly about the issues facing the Roma community, explaining that, despite their problems, they are vibrant people with a gift for singing and dancing.

Future Plans

Speaking of her future plans, Anett said: “I think the best choice for me is to take advantage of every given opportunity to learn as much as I can.” She explained that, on the one hand, her dreams are very ambitious, daring and colourful: she would like, perhaps, to be an actress or a doctor. On the other hand, she feels that her plans are more realistic – she wants to learn about entrepreneurship because she would like to start a flower shop business with a small café. Anett believes that the YBN.3 project has helped her personally to define and achieve her entrepreneurial aspirations.

Anett concluded her presentation by saying that she believes in a motto she read somewhere:

“Treasure every moment that you have, because: yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery; today is a gift – that is why it is called the present!”

Anett will soon have a further opportunity to demonstrate her skills as a speaker, as, jointly with EDW’s Chief Executive, Michael Manning-Prior, Anett will be giving a presentation about YBN.3 at a major conference in Brussels in Spring 2010.
